E PARENTS AND DANCERS:

Put your name in your dance shoes and dancewear!  The lost and found is already very large after only one month of classes. Please also check the lost and found often.  It is amazing how many quality clothes and dance shoes are left in the lost and found for months on end.

Wearing Proper Dance Attire To Your Classes Is Essential To Your Learning and Progression!

********************************

F  ATTENTION PARENTS OF YOUNG DANCERS:

(Pre-dance Combo1, 2&3)

It is essential that your dancers use the restroom prior to class.  As we have all witnessed before one child needing to use the restroom can be a disruption to the entire class due to the ‘domino’ effect of everyone else having to as well.

G Last summer at Allegro!

We had many exciting dance camps – the most popular being the princess camp!  The Allegro Precision Dance Co. performed at many fairs and festivals, including the Puyallup Fair.

Guest choreographers Van Porter & Kim Wolfe came to work with Allegro students and to choreograph for the Allegro Precision Dance Company.

Many other dancers attended extra conventions to add to their dance training, such as attending numerous classes in Vegas or even taking classes at Cornish college of the arts.  We applaud all our dancers who take the extra effort to further their dance education.

Jared McAboy and Taylor Lehman also attended the Vancouver tap festival on Labor Day weekend.

“Your body is the Sound.  The stronger the sound, the more beautiful the music.”

-Luigi     (known as one of the  fathers of Jazz)

H Spotlight on the Allegro Instructors:

Karla Koon

What classes do you teach at Allegro?

        Ballet, 3, 4Jr, 5, 6, 4Sr, Pointe 1 and 2

 - What other types of classes have you taught before?

      Oh...

Jazz (Which kind of looks like modern.)

Lryical (Which kind of looks like modern.)

      Modern

      Tap

 - What is your best memory of your dance training?

I have so many wonderful memories of my dance training from ballets performed, to places that I have performed at to friends that I have made along the way.  I would have to say that all time best memory was being able to perform at the Kennedy Center in Washington DC when I was in college.  Ever since I was a child, I wanted to perform at the Kennedy Center.  I was able to have that opportunity when I was 21.  It was amazing.  Not only did I get to perform there, I was able to share the experience with my mother, who was always my biggest supporter.

 - Who was/is most inspirational in your life?

My parents.  They always supported my dancing by taking me to class, participating in the companies I was in.  They were always there to tell me that I could do whatever I set my mind to.  Without their support I would not have been able to do the things that I have done with my dancing.

 - What is the funniest thing that has happened to you while teaching?

I think the funniest things that have happened to me while teaching are the things that students say while in class. My students are the funniest people I know.  I have so many funny statements made by my students that I could almost write a book.

 - Why do you teach?

I love being able to share what I know with kids.  It was passed onto to me from my teachers.  Being part of a ballet lineage is very exciting for me.  I love seeing my students embrace ballet and excel at it.

 - What other hobbies do you have?

I like to play softball and golf.

    I enjoy quilting and reading.

I enjoy trying different kinds of food.

 - What is your favorite style of dance?

    Ballet

However, tap is a close second even though it is not my area of expertise.

 - What type of dance would you like to learn (that you don't know already)?

I would love to be able to do Hip Hop without looking like a total dork.

 - Goals or major plans for the future?

My primary goal is to keep my body as healthy as possible so that I can continue teaching for as long a possible.

 - What you want for your students to get (the most) from your classes at Allegro?

I want my students to get a solid technical foundation to further their dance progression.  I also want my students to get an appreciation of ballet and dance in general so that as they grow older and no matter if they pursue a dance career, they will always be a dance supporter, by seeing performances and supporting local performing arts.

I- October Trivia

What is the name of the Dance Company that performed at last year’s Oscars ?

(they are the ones that created the shape of the Oscar.)

J PURE Hip Hop!

Congratulations to the new members of this years Hip Hop Troupe!

It’s going to be a great year.  Check your e-mails often for updates  and monthly hip hop newsletters.  Make sure you make every practice and please be on time!

Allegro’s 2007 Holiday Showcase

‘Going, going… gone nuts!’

Allegro’s crazy rendition of the Nutcracker

 December 16th 2:00 and 6:00 p.m.

Auburn Performing Arts Center

Tickets: Festival seating $9

Our holiday shows are a special tradition at Allegro.  It is meant to be a fun, stress-free and an inexpensive experience.  It is a great way for the students to show what they have learned so far this year while celebrating a season of love!  We only have less than two and one half months to prepare so please watch your attendance!

We have simplified the shows so they are not as long therefore some classes will be preparing a number for the show and some will not be.  This will also help on keeping expenses down.  The classes who are not dancing in the show will be able to continue working on technique and doing other choreography for fun!

The instructor will design costumes and the priority is keeping the cost low!  Hopefully something can be created from a costume piece that the dancers already have or something they can go buy on their own.  If you are a seamstress please let your child’s teacher know if you would like to help sew costumes pieces.

Costumes ideas and instructions will be posted soon in the lobby.  This will give you plenty of time to plan.  Some of the costumes might take advantage of Halloween costumes in the stores right now and some may be ordered from a catalog.

THE FOLLOWING CLASSES WILL BE PREPARING FOR THE HOLIDAY SHOW:

“Sometimes dancing and music can describe a true image of the customs of a country better than words in a newspaper.” –Gene Kelly

M There is a notepad hanging in the hallway of which all parents and students can communicate effectively with the instructors.  If you are unavailable to catch them in-between classes you can leave a note for them and they will check the notepad often.  Thank you!!

N Disruptive Behavior during class:  In order to combat disruptive students in classes, the teachers will now deal with it by having the student sit down for a few minutes.  If the behavior continues a letter will be sent to the students home informing them of the problem.  The letter is a basic form letter of which the teacher will hand write the specific information at the bottom of the page.  This is to free up the teacher from taking too much time away from teaching the class.  We thank you for understanding and we hope you realize our intentions with this matter are to give the best possible instruction to all of our students.
