Alyssa Brutlag has been teaching dance for 7 years. She has experience teaching ballet, jazz, tap, contemporary, improvisation, and conditioning at all age levels. She has volunteered with Movement Exchange at Western Michigan University where she taught free community dance classes locally and internationally in Panama City, Panama. This is her first year teaching at Allegro and she is so excited to be joining this amazing team!

 

Alyssa received her BFA in Dance in 2019 from Western Michigan University where she performed works by Aszure Barton, Rennie Harris, Kate Skarpetowska, Joshua Manculich, and Jeremy Blair and was a company member in Western Dance Project under the direction of Whitney Moncrief. Professionally, Alyssa has performed with the Pat Graney Dance Company and toured her own solo work around the country.

 

 

 

 

Alyssa holds special interest in choreography and collaboration. In 2018 she was awarded the Maggie Allesee Choreography Award through the Michigan Dance Council. She has been commissioned by the Young Dancers Initiative and was also brought on as the assistant choreographer for Curtain Up! on Broadway by Jean Ann Ryan Productions. 

While at WMU Alyssa initiated the first ever collaborative arts capstone where she co-choreographed and directed Wisteria, a multi-disciplinary, evening-length work which was awarded grant funding. Her other work has been presented at RAD Fest in Kalamazoo, MI, Gibney Dance Center in New York City, ACDA East-Central Regional Conference, Boston Contemporary Dance Festival, Detroit Dance City Festival, 12 Minutes Max at Base Experimental Arts Space, and the Dance Shorts: College Film Festival at Arizona State University. Her work for pre-professional dance companies have won multiple choreography awards and high honors at national competitions.

 

My mom and I enjoying the Puget Sound from the Space Needle! I recently moved from Ohio to Seattle and I love showing my family my beautiful new city when they visit! :)
