Teacher & Choreographer
As an instructor/choreographer Jovon Miller has won several awards in regional and national competitions for his innovative choreography. He has taught master classes in Lindy for the Washington State University and Iowa State University “Swing Devils”. He has also taught master classes in Tap, Jazz, and Contemporary all over the pacific northwest at various dance studios and Universities including Western Washington University.
As a performer Miller has performed for Sam Gilliam, Tyler Perry, several members of United States Congress, Executives/CEO’s of Disney, Coca-Cola, and many others. He has notable mention in the book “The Less Subdued Excitement, a Century of Jazz in Bellingham and Whatcom County, Washington”. Miller was also one of two dancers in the nation to win the 2009-2010 Congressional Black Caucus Spouses Performing Arts Scholarship/Award for his work in tap dancing. He has a BA in dance from Western Washington University with a focus on Modern and has received high praise and several awards for his choreography in contemporary, jazz, and tap in the Pacific Northwest.
As a musician Miller has performed with Gerald Turner (Digable Planets & Cherrywine), Kevin Gardner (E-40 Platinum Producer), Greg Adams (Tower of Power), and many others.
Current and Past Projects include...
He is currently the concept co-creator and choreographer for “The Jump Session Show” which features artists from across the globe and kicks off “Camp Jitterbug”, one of the biggest Lindy Hop and Jazz events in the United States. Miller was also a choreographer and dancer in the most recent “Greg’s Japanese Auto” commercial. He has also danced alongside such great artist as Chester Whitmore (Choreographer: Boys II Men, Sugar Ray, and The NAACP Image Awards) and Greta Matassa (7 time “Earshot” Northwest Vocalist of the Year). Most recently, he traveled to Torino Italy to co-direct and perform in a show with Ryan Francois (So You Think You Can Dance UK, Idlewild, and Dancing With the Stars) for the Torino Swing Festival as well as teach master classes in tap, jazz, and improvisation.
